Garage Door Hardware
Keeping your garage door running smoothly starts with a simple monthly check. With the door closed, take a look at all the metal brackets where the door connects to the tracks on the ceiling. Make sure every bolt and screw is tight. A loose connection here can cause the door to become crooked and strain the motor. Next, listen as the door opens and closes. Any loud grinding or scraping noises often point to the metal rollers needing lubrication. A few drops of a lightweight oil or silicone spray on the rollers and hinges will make things quiet again.
For a bigger project, replacing the weather seal at the bottom of the door is a great weekend fix. This long rubber strip, called a bottom seal, keeps out rain, leaves, and drafts. Over time, it becomes brittle and cracks. To replace it, simply open the door and pull the old seal out of its metal holder. Clean out any dirt from the channel, then press the new seal firmly into place. It snaps in easily. This simple task protects everything in your garage from water damage and helps keep your home’s energy bills lower. Always remember to disconnect the garage door opener before starting any hands-on repair for safety.
