Outdoor Living & Patio Tip
Pressure Washers
Pressure washers are like a super-powered garden hose. They can save you hours of scrubbing on outdoor projects. Before you start, always sweep away loose dirt and debris. This keeps you from just blasting mud around. Remember to test the washer’s spray on a small, hidden area of whatever you are cleaning. This helps you find the right power setting and distance so you don’t accidentally damage wood, vinyl siding, or paint. It’s much better to start gentle and move closer slowly than to cause damage you’ll have to fix later.
For most home jobs, like washing a deck, car, or patio furniture, use the wide, fan-spray nozzle. It covers more area and is safer for surfaces. Always hold the wand steady and keep it moving. Pointing it in one spot for too long, especially up close, can leave marks or even cut into soft wood. Work from the top down on walls or fences so the dirty water runs down onto areas you haven’t cleaned yet. When you’re done, always run clean water through the machine for a minute before storing it. This clears out any leftover soap or dirt inside the pump, keeping it ready for your next project.
