Table & Kitchen Linens
When a tablecloth or napkin gets a small tear, don't toss it out. A simple hand stitch can fix it and make it last for years. First, find a thread that matches the color of your linen as closely as possible. Turn the item inside out so your repair will be on the back side. Use a basic running stitch, going in and out of the fabric in a straight line along the tear. Pull the stitches snug, but not so tight that the fabric bunches. This easy fix is nearly invisible from the front and saves you money.
Stubborn stains on placemats or cloth napkins don't always need harsh chemicals. For many common food stains, a simple paste made from baking soda and water can work wonders. Make a thick paste and rub it gently onto the stain. Let it sit for at least thirty minutes, then brush off the dried paste and wash the item as you normally would. For white linens, soaking them in a mixture of warm water and a scoop of oxygen-based bleach can brighten them and lift old stains. Always check the care label first and test any cleaner on a small, hidden area to make sure it's safe for the fabric.
