Blinds
Blinds can be tricky, but many common problems are easy to fix yourself. If your blinds won't raise or lower smoothly, the issue is often tangled cords or a stuck mechanism. First, gently lower the blind all the way to the floor to release any tension. Carefully untangle any knots in the lift cords by hand. If the cords are free but the blind still sticks, check the top rail. Use a can of compressed air, like for cleaning keyboards, to blow out dust from the cord holes and the mechanism where the cords enter. This simple cleaning often gets things moving again.
For broken or missing slats, you don't need to replace the whole blind. You can order replacement slats from the manufacturer's website using your blind's model number, which is usually on the headrail. To install a new slat, first remove the bottom plug or "anchor" from the lift cords. Slide out the broken slat and slide the new one onto the cords in its place. Then, just thread the cords back through the bottom plug and tie a secure knot. It’s like restringing a bead necklace. Always work on a flat, clean surface and be patient, as the cords can be fiddly. Keeping a small toolkit with needle-nose pliers and a screwdriver makes these small jobs much easier.
