Commercial Mats
A clean, well-placed commercial mat is a simple secret to protecting your floors. Before you buy a new one, take a moment to check the mat you already have. Often, a mat that seems worn out just needs a good cleaning. For rubber-backed mats, take them outside and give them a strong spray with a hose. Scrub the top with a brush and some mild dish soap, then rinse them well and let them dry completely in the sun. This can make an old mat look new again and restore its ability to trap dirt.
When you do need a new mat, measure your doorway carefully. The mat should be wide enough so that people naturally step on it with both feet when they walk through the door. For the best results, place the mat on the outside of an exterior door and another, thinner one directly inside. This two-mat system acts like a team: the outside mat scrapes off the big chunks of dirt and water, while the inside one catches the fine dust that remains. This double layer will keep your floors cleaner and save you a lot of mopping and sweeping over time.
